The Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) conducted another successful webinar last March 4, 2022. Held via the Zoom online platform in cooperation with Benedicto Steel Corporation, the session, entitled “Tie Down and Load Securement,” attracted 63 attendees.
The three-hour session, which was opened by Sixto T. Benedicto, chairman of ACEL’s Committee on Manpower Development and Certification, featured Clemente Rey A. Dorosan as speaker. A regional sales manager and product trainer for Southeast Asian countries of The Crosby Group, Dorosan is a cargo securement consultant with 14 years’ experience in the lifting and rigging industry.
In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of properly securing cargo to keep the cargo, the driver and the general public safe. “By understanding cargo control products and cargo factors, you can secure the equipment being shipped in such a way as to prevent possible cargo shifting damage and, at the same time, protect the interests of the companies concerned and comply with regulations,” he told the webinar participants.
In his presentation, Dorosan focused on the requirements for cargo securement and working load limits, all of which were based on US standards. Drawing on his extensive experience as a lifting and rigging consultant for The Crosby Group, he also provided the attendees with blocking and bracing pointers. The cargo securement webinar was just the latest of the series of technical sessions that ACEL, through its manpower development and certification committee, regularly conducts in line with its goal of promoting, developing and implementing a comprehensive manpower development program that is focused on the needs of the Philippine construction sector.
