Copies of the 26th edition – the latest version – of the ACEL Equipment Guidebook are proliferating online. While this is heartwarming proof of the wide popularity of this handbook, the Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) is informing everyone that these reproductions, which are being uploaded and downloaded online, are unofficial copies. This means the Association is not vouching for their veracity.
Official copies of the Guidebook can only be purchased from the ACEL office for Ph₱4,000 for Association members and Ph₱5,000 for non-members.
The publication of this handy manual is a continuing service ACEL has been providing the country’s construction industry since 1966. At that time, the lack of serviceable construction equipment was a serious industry concern. The Association, thus, decided to come up with a guidebook that would standardize equipment rental rates which went hand in hand with its pioneering plan to introduce the practice of equipment leasing. At that time, ACEL saw leasing as the most practical alternative to purchasing and owning construction equipment which, aside from being expensive, also required equally costly maintenance and upkeep. It also saw this as an important step for achieving its vision of serving as a catalyst for the growth of the Philippine construction sector and of the economy as a whole.
The Guidebook is regularly updated to take into consideration the realities of the prevailing business environment. Through meticulous research and extensive consultations with industry players, each edition remains true to ACEL’s primary objective of standardizing rental rates to provide equipment lessees with valuable guidance while presenting formulas that approximate the lessors’ owning and operating costs, thus ensuring that equipment rental will continue to be a viable and mutually beneficial practice.
This is the reason why the ACEL Equipment Guidebook has, over the years, established a reputation as being the most authoritative reference when it comes to equipment rental rates. But as the Association is reminding everyone, this only applies to official copies of the manual.
