Two technical seminar offerings of the Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) proved to be big hits at the recently concluded Philconstruct Visayas where they attracted a big number of attendees. Held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino last July 21-23, 2022, Philconstruct Visayas was the second stop of this year’s series of construction industry expos organized by the Philippine Contractors Association (PCA) with ACEL as a co-sponsor.
The first of these technical seminars, more popularly know as technoforums, focused on “Basic Formworks Design and Calculation” and was held on July 22 from 9 AM to 1PM. A hybrid session, it attracted 26 attendees onsite and 34 participants online. Civil engineers who attended this seminar each earned two continuing professional development (CPD) points.
Conducted by Romeo I. Sevillo Jr., design engineering manager of RMD Kwikform Phils. Inc., the technoforum enabled the attendees to get a deeper understanding of basic formwork design and conduct basic formwork calculations.
ACEL’s second offering, which was held on July 23, dealt with the “Essentials of Supervisory Leadership.” A hybrid seminar as well, it was attended by 34 participants onsite and by 20 others online. Mechanical engineers who attended this session earned six CPD points, while participating civil engineers gained five CPD points.
This technoforum, which ran from 9 AM to 5 PM, featured Louie I. Galicia, assistant vice president for human resources management at EEI Corporation, as the resource speaker. Designed to help employees on the supervisory level gain the required leadership competencies to become effective supervisors, the seminar discussed key leadership concepts, principles, styles and practices that superviors ned to know to become more effective in leading high-performance teams. “Supervision is a leadership challenge,” Galicia told the participants. “It is at this level that one’s leadership and people management skills are tested.”
