The Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) conducted a technical seminar on the “Fundamentals of Rigging” as part of its participation in Philconstruct Luzon that was held at the SMX Convention Center Clark in Angeles City, Pampanga on June 9-11, 2022. The Association’s technical seminars, better known as technoforums, have become regular features of Philconstruct events, a yearly series of construction industry expositions that the Philippine Contractors Association (PCA) organizes with ACEL as a co-sponsor.
Held on June 9, the rigging technoforum, which the Association offered in cooperation with Benedicto Steel Corporation, ran from 9 AM to 5 PM. It was conducted by Clemente Rey A. Dorosan, regional sales manager of The Crosby Group who also serves as the company’s product trainer for countries in the Asia-Pacific. A widely respected lifting and rigging consultant, Dorosan shared with the technoforum attendees his extensive knowledge gained from 14 years of working in the lifting and rigging sector.
Emphasizing the importance of rigging, he said: “Hoisting and rigging operations present a serious hazard to the workplace. Accidents may happen while operating or working with or around this type of equipment if the operators/riggers fail to recognize or anticipate the potential dangers associated with this particular task.”
“It is, therefore, important that all responsible individuals know the specific guidelines for identifying, monitoring, evaluating and training personnel who must work on or around mechanized equipment in undertaking hoisting and rigging operations,” he pointed out. The technoforum, a hybrid seminar, attracted 47 participants, 25 of whom attended onsite while 22 joined online.
