Thirty-six Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors members, guests and walk-in participants enjoyed another fun day of golf and camaraderie at this year’s ACEL President’s Cup that was held last October 14, 2019 at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf and Country Club in Quezon City.
The event was formally opened by the Presidential Tee-Off that was gamely done by Eduardo “Ed” Trinidad, the current ACEL President, together with four former Association presidents: August “Tito” Manalo, 1998-1999 president; Jose Amado “Kit” Angeles, 2001 and 2004 president; Lito Garcia, 2013-2014 president; and Pedro “Peter” Pancho, 2010 and 2012 president.
At the end of play, all participants gathered at the clubhouse where the awarding ceremonies were held. Jim Crocket emerged as the Men’s Class A champion, besting Kit Angeles who settled for runner-up honors. Ranie Carlos topped the Men’s Class B division with Ed Isidoro as runner-up. Sixto Benedicto, ACEL director and Benedicto Steel Corporation chief executive, captured the Men’s Class C championship, while Ed Trinidad took home the runner-up plum.
In the Women’s division, IA Bakunawa was declared the champion, while Josephine Anne “Joanna” Lim, ACEL corporate secretary and Eaglecor shared services manager, was named runner-up.
Other winners feted at the awarding ceremonies were Bing Alcantara who took the prize for longest drive, Pinggoy Lagumbay who made the most accurate drive, and Kit Angeles who put the ball nearest to the pin. A special prize was likewise given to Andy Garcia of Livan Trade Corporation for posting the tournament’s highest score. The awarding rites, which was emceed by Kit Angeles, also had treats even for non-winners as more than P230,000 worth of prizes were raffled off.
This year’s President’s Cup was not just about golf. It was also another corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of ACEL as the tournament’s Mulligan fees were collected and donated to the San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School to help the technical-vocational (tech voc) students in this Pasig City-based institution.
