The Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) kicked off its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program for the year with a donation to the San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School last February 18, 2021.
Located in Manggahan, Pasig City, San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School is an independent public school founded in 2016 that offers three academic tracks: General Academic, Technical Vocational Livelihood. Sports, and Arts and Design. For the current school year, 322 students are enrolled in its Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) program.
ACEL, in line with its goal of supporting the Philippine construction industry by helping provide this vital economic sector with trained manpower, donated Ph₱40,000 to the school for the upgrading of its facilities and to support its TVL program, specifically its shield metal arc welding (SMAW) strand. The funds came from the mulligans participants took at the 2019 ACEL’s President Cup that was held on October 14 that year. In golf, a mulligan allows a player to replay a stroke but only after paying a fine.
Although this donation was pledged as early as 2019, the Association was only able to formally turn it over in February because of the strict lockdown the government imposed last year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
To turn over the donation, a small ACEL delegation made up of J. Eladio L. Angeles, the Association president; Juan Lorenzo Luis DC. Banson, CSR Committee chairman; Laurice S.D. Ambrosio, executive officer; and Precious Darlene S. Moya, Secretary; went to the school. They met with Maricris O. Murillo, San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School principal; Katherine Guevarra, the Adopt-a-School coordinator; Rubener Tacsay, Technical Vocational subject head; and Gerolyn A. Postrano, the school’s point person for the ACEL partnership.
After a tour of the school’s facilities, the two parties gathered at the conference room for the signing of a memorandum of understanding. President Angeles then turned over a check to Principal Murillo to cap ACEL’s visit and formally mark the start of the Association’s 2021 CSR calendar.
In accepting the donation, Murillo said: “The San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School expresses its profound gratitude to the Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors Inc. for its consistent support as the school’s partner for innovations and for helping us improve our facilities. ACEL’s donation will not only used for the development of our vertical garden on the school façade but also for the construction of a bicycle lane for our students which will be installed with the help of our TVL-Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) students. The proposed installation will commence this year.”
