The Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL) again partnered with the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) as a co-organizer to stage the first virtual edition of Philconstruct that was held on November 5-11, 2020.
An annual project of PCA, Philconstruct is the Philippines’ premier construction industry event. It is actually a series of trade shows that usually starts in Luzon, followed by Cebu and Davao, and then culminates in a grand expo in Metro Manila which is attended by the construction industry’s movers and shakers, gathering hundreds of leading suppliers who showcase their latest products and services as well as thousands of trade buyers and construction industry players who want to be updated on the newest technologies and breakthroughs.
This year, however, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, PCA and its co-organizers decided to organize only one event – and, for the first time in Philconstruct’s 30-year history, to hold it online.
As a co-organizer of this year’s show, aptly named Philconstruct VX to highlight its being a virtual event, ACEL again conducted its signature technical seminars, known as “technoforums.”
The Association offered three technoforum tracks.
On November 5, Philconstruct VX’s opening day, a two-hour session on the “Fundamentals of Rigging” was held. Featuring Rey Dorosan, regional sales manager and product trainer of The Crosby Group, as the speaker, it was moderated by Augusto F. Manalo, president of J.E. Manalo and Company Inc. Held from 4:15 PM to 6:15 PM, this session attracted 36 participants.
The following day, a two-track technoforum was conducted. The first track, which ran from 3:00 PM to 5:15 PM, focused on “Maximizing Construction Technologies in the New Normal.” Two engineers, Roman Carpio, paving specialist of the core industries business unit of Monark Equipment Corporation, and Hans Christian Lopez of the special projects office of San Miguel Holdings Corporation, served as the speakers for this session which was moderated by Dr. Ernesto De Castro, chief executive officer of ESCA Inc.
The second track, which ran from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, was titled “Philippine Technical and Design Webinar Series: Formworks’ Reliability, Cost Efficiency and Safety (FoRCES).” Another engineer, Warel D. Demaisip, general manager, Southern Region of RMD Kwikform Philippines Inc., was the speaker, while Morris S, Agoncillo, president of DATEM Inc. and also an engineer, moderated the session.
These two tracks attracted a combined attendance of 154 participants.
